I started art at age five. I took "classes" at Dallas Art Studio consistently for a total of 13 years. Sticking to one activity for that long is rare, especially since I showed no special talent when I was young. However, I continued painting and drawing because of its therapeutic effect. Teachers stopped officially teaching me in 8th grade and let me produce artwork independently. Going to the art studio was, and still is, equivalent to eating a bucket of my favorite calorie-loaded icecream. When I pick up a paintbrush, pencil, or whatever art utensil, nothing else seems to matter. For a moment, I forget about my daily worries and enter a state of complete relaxation. My mind is free to wander anywhere; my creative juices start to flow and I express my imagination on paper. My artwork is far from normal. Although I have some realistic, still-life drawings, my passion lies in random, but thematically unfied abstract images. I am glad that I do art for my own pleasure, for I wish to continue painting until my body becomes too frail to squeeze paint out of a tube. Although I do not plan on majoring in art, I plan to minor in art... if possible. If not, I will just cover part of my dorm wall with paper, hang canvases over it, and start painting whenever I want to escape from a hectic day.
There, I learned about a particular charity called Vietnam Project. I am particularly interested in donating the money to their project on Children's Heart Surgery :
http://www.vietnamproject.org/heart.html I actually played and established close bonds with the children pictured on their website... it was an unforgettable experience. This is something small I could do for them... the kids who were full of energy and sincerity.
