b i o : I have been doing art for most of my life, but the
majority of that time was spent without any real art classes. From
second through eighth grade, I attended public school and was unable to
participate in art inside of school. Instead, I covered spare paper
with drawings. Upon entering Greenhill in ninth grade, I was finally
exposed to school art classes with one of the most wonderful teachers I
have ever had: Mrs. Gruben. She is really the person who I credit with
my love of art and my decision to make it my career. For most of
freshman and sophomore year, I lived in the Greenhill studio and spent
all my extra time there. In the middle of my sophomore year, I began
the rabbit project. I decided that i would like to do a "rainbow of
rabbits"--painting larger-than-life rabbits in strange colours and in
odd, dark environments. I simplified the idea somewhat; the backgrounds
simply became black with more splashes of colour. The project took me
nearly two years, but I have finally finished all six rabbits. I can
honestly say I'm proud to have done it, even if it was difficult at
times. To this day, students in the upper school sometimes approach me
and ask, "Hey, are you the girl who paints rabbits?" I always nod.
And the funny part is that none of them know I was born on Easter.c h a r i t y : Free The Children: The primary goals of the organization are to free children from poverty
